The French National Library is one of the most important of France and of the world. Their activities are separated into different locations, being the main one the Francois Mitterrand, located in the Tolbiac neighbourhood in the XIII arrondissement, on the south part of Paris.
Approximately there are 30 million volumes but it is also well known by Gallica, the digital library. It is one of the most important libraries in the world.

The National Library of France is a public establishment under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. Its mission is to constitute collections, especially the copies of works published in France that must, by law, be deposited there, conserve them, and make them available to the public. It produces a reference catalogue, cooperates with other national and international establishments, and participates in research programs.
Every person older than 16 years old can have access to the upper part of the library named Tolbiac, previously buying a ticket. The garden parts as well as the lecturer saloons can only be used if you have the correspondent accreditations that include a 15 days or annual payment. Certain people, particularly students, are allowed to pay a cheaper ticket and sometimes do not even pay anything.

The FNL has a long tradition on expositions centred on its collections, often completed by foreign contributions. Since the new establishment was constructed scientific programs increased, such as conferences, concerts and sometimes showings. It works also as editor. It mainly publishes catalogues from its collections and collections and also unpublished documents. Some productions are published with private editor’s help.

It confirms the issuance of two publications. One of them informs the reader about the establishment. The other one, the FNL magazine has articles about the history of the library and its collections, as well as information about the history of other libraries and the media.
Cooperating with other French libraries is among their missions. That way it created strong relationships with other libraries called “associated poles”. There are two types: the ones who receive books deposited by printers; and the poles that promises to keep safe the complementary collections from the FNL in an specific field. These poles are called “documentary division” and there are 47 in total (25 in the France Island and 22 in the arrondissements).

The FNL also has relationships with other foreign libraries. The most popular is the “European Library”, a digital library organized jointly with many other European libraries, essentially national. This grouping created the “numerous European library”, a project that associates almost every library in the continent.

The FNL is manager by an administration council made up of tutelage representatives, representatives of the discovery world, two representatives from the employees and two representatives from users. The administration council should ask first the scientific council that has a consultancy job.
The president of the FNL, named for 3 years of leadership, leads the establishment, is helped by a general director and 4 joined directors. Nowadays, Juan-Noël Jeanneney is the president of the library and services are divided into 3 directions and 4 delegations.
