The Natural History Museum of France is a public institution of French scientific research. It depends on the General Education Minister, the Upper Education Minister and the Environment Minister.
Its main functions are the preservation of scientific collections, scientific research, superior school and the dissemination of the scientific culture in the specialities of the institution: the natural history.
It is a big complex separated in several thematic saloons: the famous Grand Gallery of Evolution (dedicated to history of life, the evolution mechanisms and a collection of extinct species and threatened by extinction species), the Ethnobiology Gallery (dedicated to insects, more than 1500 specimens), the Comparative Anatomy gallery (dedicated to vertebrates), the Paleontology Galley (with fossils collections and evidences of animal life in the earth).
