La Villette

La Villette

The park la Villete is one of the biggest parks of the French capital (25 hectare) and the second biggest green area of the capital (first the Père-Lachaise cemetery)

It is located in the XIXe arrondissement of Paris (France). The construction was responsibility of Bernard Tschumi in 1982. Formerly there was a slaughterhouse and the livestock market. The park is surrounded by a continuation of red buildings named Follies that add colour to the park and offer different services like nurseries, cafeterias and workshops. The l’Ourcq channel splits the park up in two parts that are joined by two footbridges.

There are many prestigious buildings located there such as the Zénith theatre, la Géode or la Cité de la musique. The amount of attractions of this place creates a pleasant walk. It has a varied cultural planning all along the year like expositions, theatres, concerts, cirques and open-air cinemas.
