La Madeleine

La Madeleine

It is a catholic church built in the napoleon times (beginnings of 1800) located in the tourist heart of Paris, near the rue du Faubourg St. Honoré and not far from du Printemps et la Galerie Lafayette. In front of this church there are two well-known stores from Darty, Hédiard and Fauchon. On the other corner you will find Coco, a place where cheap, useful and stuff is always available.

Formerly it was a roman temple now turned into a church. The façade has spectacular columns that do not give the impression of a catholic church. Some elements still remain original (arches and statues) from the imperial Rome.

Masses are on Saturdays at 18:00hs; on Sundays at 8, 9:30, 11 (the big one), 12:30 and 18hs. During the week at 7:45, 11, 12:25 and 18:30hrs.
This Paris church replaced in 1764 for Contant d'Ivry was rebuilt by Guillaume Couture (1777) but left unfinished from 1790 till 1805. In 1806 it was turned into the Glory Temple by Vignon and finally come back to be a church in 1842. It has the aspect of a Greek antique temple. It is one of the most visited by tourists churches of Paris.
