La Géode

la geode

La Géode is located in the Parc de la Villette, in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. It was constructed by the arquitecht Adrien Fainsilber and Gérard Chamaillou and it was finally opened the 6th of May of 1985. The building is located behind the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie.
The external part is made up of 2580 steel bars.

The supporting geodesic structure is made up of a triangulated spherical that fit perfectly one into the other. The auxiliary framework supports 6433 pre-formed triangles of polished stainless steel that reflect light as a mirror. The triangles form the cover for La Géode, making it look like a mirror reflecting everything around it. Each triangle has been polished individually; the polishing was taken particularly seriously to ensure that the light had identical polarisation on each one.

The enormous dome of La Géode conceals a 400-seater cinema complete with a giant hemispheric screen measuring 1000 m2 across and an IMAX format. Movies last less than one hour.
